Can anyone more knowledgeable than me tell me if this is a good deal? I recall the 1973 1.8 models to be slower than other 914's...

"Slower than other 914s" is like saying the 1.5L Civic is slower than the 1.6L Civic; they're both still slow Civics.

It looks like 914s in decent shape go for around 4k-6k. I personally think this is a meh deal, but I really have no knowledge outside of 10 minutes of browsing searchtempest for 914s.

what he said - marginally quicker than a 1.7, slightly slower than a 2.0 - all slower than a 914/6. Hell of a fun car in the twisties though

I think the 914 is probably the last sleeper Porsche, in terms of collectability.

10 years back that is what I was saying about the 912, but good lord have those gone through the roof. 5 grand for a nice driver back then. Now 20! 30K goddamn bucks for one!!!
I don't know if the '14 will ever see that kind of loot, but they are sure to appreciate some

Seller doesn't mention anything about rust, and does mention the asynchronous gears. Hard to say. If there's rust around the battery tray, I'd say don't waste your time or money. If there isn't, and you don't mind a money pit... it'd be super fun and you don't have to worry about lowering its value. $1500-2 grand tops, though.
